Join this full-day, 13-hour guided tour departing from Reykjavík, offering a unique, small-group experience into the challenging terrain of Iceland’s interior. This tour provides an essential solution for reaching the remote, road-restricted Highlands.
Your journey uses a specially modified 4x4 mountain truck, ensuring safe and comfortable navigation over the rugged terrain. The adventure begins with visits to the powerful South Iceland waterfalls: first, Hjálparfoss, a picturesque twin fall framed by basalt columns, followed by the immense Háifoss, plunging 122 meters into a deep canyon (the nearby Granni waterfall adds to the scene). You will also stop at the Hnausapollur Crater Lake, famed for its vivid red volcanic slopes surrounding sapphire-blue waters.
The main destination is Landmannalaugar, known as a geothermal paradise. Here, you are given substantial free time to explore the multicolored rhyolite mountains and otherworldly obsidian lava fields on your own pace. A major benefit of this stop is the opportunity to soothe muscles in the natural geothermal pool, a mineral-rich oasis situated right in the heart of the mountains.
