Landmannalaugar Super Jeep Day Tour from Reykjavík
Tour Description
Explore the rugged southern Icelandic highlands on this full-day tour from Reykjavík. This journey takes you off the paved main roads and into a remote landscape shaped by volcanic activity.
Your first stop is Hjálparfoss, a unique twin waterfall framed by distinct basalt rock structures. From here, the route travels inland along rough gravel roads into the Þjórsárdalur Valley. You will visit Háifoss, one of the tallest waterfalls in Iceland, which drops 122 meters (400 feet) into a deep river canyon. Right next to it is a second waterfall called Granni, which means "neighbor" in Icelandic. Pop culture fans will recognize this panoramic canyon edge from the final episode of the television series Stranger Things. In reality, the production crew traveled to this exact spot to film the finale scene with actress Millie Bobby Brown, though the town in the background was added digitally.
Next, the tour stops at Hnausapollur, a large volcanic crater lake known for its deep blue water and steep rims. The final destination is Landmannalaugar, a famous geothermal area located roughly 180 kilometers (111 miles) from the capital. Your guide will lead you on a scenic hike past steaming vents, lava fields, and multicolored rhyolite mountains. After the hike, you will have time to bathe in a natural, warm geothermal pool.
