Experience the only show in the world where you can safely witness real flowing lava at a temperature of 1100°C (2000°F). Highlights include a dramatic simulation of a volcanic eruption as molten rock is poured over ice, recreating the elemental battles of the famous Eyjafjallajökull and Katla volcanoes. This 50-minute educational display allows you to feel the radiant heat, hear the crackling of cooling minerals, and see the transition of liquid fire into volcanic glass in the heart of Vík, South Iceland.
The Icelandic Lava Show in Vík offers a rare opportunity to observe a volcanic eruption in a controlled, indoor environment. Located in the Katla UNESCO Global Geopark, approximately 180 kilometers (about 2.5 hours) from Reykjavík, this award-winning attraction provides a factual and immersive look at the geology that defines the "Land of Ice and Fire."
The experience begins with an educational presentation on Icelandic volcanism, focusing on the historical impact of the nearby Katla volcano, which last erupted in 1918. The highlight of the show occurs when real basaltic lava, superheated until it reaches a liquid state, is released into the showroom. Guests are provided with safety goggles to wear as the lava flows into a basalt basin, often coming into contact with ice to demonstrate the explosive interactions that occur beneath Iceland's glaciers.
During the demonstration, the room temperature rises significantly as the lava radiates intense heat. A professional host explains the physical properties of the flow, showing how it cools and solidifies into shiny black obsidian and porous rock. This show is situated in the same building as The Soup Company restaurant, making it a convenient stop for travelers exploring the South Coast near the famous Black Sand Beach (Reynisfjara). It is an ideal, family-friendly activity for those who wish to understand the raw power of nature without the risks associated with an active eruption site.

For groups up to 20 people the Showroom can be reserved for a private experience. Apart from having the Showroom exclusively for your group, a private show offers more personal communication with the lava master during the show as well as the possibility for guests to interact (play) with lava!

• Tickets are not refunded unless the exhibition is cancelled. If dates are changed the owner of the ticket is offered a refund or another ticket with a new date. Requests for refunds must be sent to Lava Centre in writing no later than 28 days after the date of the cancelled exhibition.
• In case tickets are purchased and re-sold with a profit, Lava Centre has the right to cancel the ticket/s without notice and deny the ticket holder access.
