Hot Spring, Hiking & Horse Riding Full-Day Tour
Tour Description
Explore the volcanic landscape of South Iceland on a comprehensive horseback riding tour based near Hveragerði, a town located 40 minutes from Reykjavik. This tour is designed for those who want to experience Iceland's unique nature and its famous native horses on a single, scenic route.
The journey begins on smooth riding trails along the slopes of Reykjafjall mountain, guiding you through a local forest and past colorful geothermal fields that expanded during a major earthquake in 2008. As the trail transitions toward the hills of the Hengill volcano, the flat terrain provides an ideal opportunity to try the "tölt"—the smooth, five-gaited characteristic unique to the Icelandic horse.
From the lowlands, your group will follow narrow mountain paths leading up into the Reykjadalur valley. Along the way, you will pass the Djúpagilsfoss waterfall and bubbling geothermal vents. Once inside the valley, the tour pauses to allow participants to bathe in a naturally heated river. Please remember to bring a swimsuit and a towel if you wish to swim.
The return journey down the valley offers expansive views of the surrounding farmland, the village of Hveragerði, and the southern coast, where the Westman Islands are often visible on clear days. The tour concludes back at the farm with complimentary coffee and home-baked cake.
