FlyOver Iceland
Tour Description
Experience the diverse landscapes of Iceland from a unique perspective through state-of-the-art flight simulation. Highlights include a multi-sensory journey over glaciers, fjords, and volcanic mountains on a 20-meter spherical screen. Before the flight, you will explore Icelandic history and mythology through two immersive pre-shows: a Viking Longhouse storytelling session and an interactive journey through the Well of Time, guided by the legendary troll figure, Sú Vitra.
FlyOver Iceland is a high-technology attraction located in the Grandi harbor district of Reykjavík. It offers a practical way to see the remote and inaccessible parts of the island without leaving the city. The experience uses a motion-controlled seating system where your feet dangle in front of a massive spherical screen, creating a realistic sensation of flight.
The main film was captured using specialized helicopter-mounted cameras to provide authentic aerial views. As you "fly" over Icelandic landscapes—including the vast highlands, deep fjords, and massive ice caps—integrated effects like wind, mist, and scents are used to simulate the outdoor environment. This provides a clear, all-around view of the country’s geography that would otherwise take weeks to see by car.
Before the flight portion, guests participate in two cultural pre-ride shows. The first takes place in a reconstructed Viking Longhouse, where a storyteller uses shadow-play projections to explain how early settlers lived. The second show, The Well of Time, is guided by Sú Vitra, a character inspired by local troll folklore. This segment breaks down Iceland's history into three practical stages: the raw power of the volcanic land, the arrival of humans and the "Þetta Reddast" (it will all work out) philosophy, and how the population survived on this rugged island through the centuries.
The entire experience lasts approximately 35 minutes and is suitable for all ages (meeting the minimum height requirement of 102cm). It is an excellent option for visitors who want to understand the scale of Iceland's nature and the depth of its history in a comfortable, indoor setting.
