After a short ride on the "Tröll Bus," you will walk a short distance to the edge of the glacier. Your guide will demonstrate how to use the equipment and how to safely walk on the ice. The tour guarantees 1 hour and 30 minutes on the ice, with an additional 10-minute shuttle ride each way. The remaining time is allocated for a safety briefing and a 20-minute walk on a gravel path to the glacier tongue. We will meet at Sólheimajökull parking lot, where you will find our bus. On the location we will handle all the necessary glacier equipment – such as a harness, helmet, crampons & ice axes. It is important to bring good ankle support shoes with you (which are also possible to rent  for a good price). Once everyone is ready to go, we will start our unforgettable hike to the glacier!

On the way to the glacier we will see a glacier lagoon – a lagoon formed from the melting ice. It is also pretty common to see huge chunks of icebergs floating in the lagoon, if winds do not push them into the Atlantic Ocean.

Once we reach the glacier, we will stop to secure our crampons & other glacier gear. We will then start our hike onto one of Iceland’s most panoramic glaciers. We will be greeted by scenic crevasses, which are huge cracks on a glacier caused by movement of different blocks of ice.

On the top of the glacier we will be able to experience the world like never before:

• Moulins – the glacial tunnels
• Crevasses – chucks of splitting ice
• Volcanic remains from a volcano under the glacier
• And so much more.

Unfortunately, like all other glaciers in Iceland, Sólheimajökull is melting at a rapid pace. It is believed that the glacier will completely disappear within the next few decades.

The top of the glacier offers extremely beautiful views, and if the weather is nice, we will be able to see Iceland’s beautiful South Coast, fading away into the North Atlantic Ocean.

Experience an exciting activity in Iceland this summer with a boat tour around the renowned Jökulsárlón, also known as the Glacier Lagoon.

Jökulsárlón, formed by the melting ice from Iceland's largest glacier, Vatnajökull, is a picturesque lake. The Glacier Lagoon is regularly dotted with large icebergs that break off from the majestic glacier.

This beautiful location is particularly suitable for adventurous travelers with rental cars.

We will meet near our meeting point in Jökulsárlón, where we will get geared up with life jackets.  We will then get onto a boat and start our unforgettable adventure into an ice world!

Once we get into the lagoon, we will immediately be surrounded by gigantic icebergs in any direction we look. We will spend around 45 minutes exploring this beautiful place and learning how global warming has affected our beautiful lands in Iceland.

As we cruise around the lagoon, we might even get the chance to find seals playing in the water! Many of these adorable creatures made Jökulsárlón their home since seals in Iceland are used to integrating with humans.

After the tour, you can explore the absolutely phenomenal area called Diamond Beach, located just across the road, to make your time even more exciting. 

Elves are important creatures in Iceland. They get to decide where roads can go, and houses can be built. On this tour we see some places populated by these special creatures, the “hidden people”, but as they are hidden, we will not actually meet them! So, depending on where the horses felt their presence last time, you will ride on one of two paths.

We will either pass the small cleft Alfakví and the old sheep’s house that cannot be removed without serious consequences. Some elves are musical; Skjólklettur is the place of the elves’ church, where singing has been heard. On our way to the elfin hill, Einbui, populated by friendly and sometimes singing elves, we also experience excellent riding trails for trying the special, smooth gait of the Icelandic horse, “tölt”.

Or ride through hummocks meadows and lava fields where they believe to live. If your horse reacts when passing by, then an elf might be close by.

When crossing the small warm river Varmá, look out for Nykur, the Icelandic version of a water spirit.

After returning to our hotel, a light lunch will be served.

On this tour, we will take a journey through meadows, lava fields, and a small river, admiring the volcanic mountains and farmland. Along the way, we will get a glimpse into the evolution of agriculture by visiting various farms. Most of the time, it is impossible to get into the highlands with a regular car- the only way to get there is with 4X4 wheels. As we arrive at the base camp on the glacier, we will put on some equipment, such as overalls, helmets, overshoes, gloves, and a hat. Once we learn how to operate the snowmobiles, we will start the unforgettable adventure through the glacier covered with ice and snow and proceed to the Mars-like landscape of Iceland.

Part 2: The LAVA SHOW After the glacier tour, you will have time for lunch before the second activity. Spectators watch from a safe distance as authentic lava, sourced from the 1918 Katla eruption, is heated to an incredible 1100∘C (2000∘F) and poured into a showroom. You will feel the intense heat and safely perceive the sheer power of molten lava through sight, sound, and sensation. Security goggles are provided for everyone. The show is highly educational, explaining how the lava cools to form volcanic glass and providing factual insights into Iceland's geology.
