Tour Description

Your extended Katla adventure begins at the Troll Expeditions Katla Ice Cave Meeting Point in Vík. Be sure to arrive 20 minutes early—you’ll recognize our Super Jeeps by the bold Troll logo and find free parking right next to The Vík Inn. Our friendly guides will check you in, help with any rental gear you’ve reserved (like boots or waterproof clothing), and get you prepped for your icy expedition.

Once ready, you'll hop into our specially modified Super Jeep for a 40-minute ride through the surreal volcanic outwash plains of southern Iceland (note that the duration of the Super Jeep ride is highly dependent on the road and weather conditions). As the black sands fly beneath your tires and green mossy peaks rise around you, your guide will share insights into Katla’s explosive volcanic history and the rare ice formations that make this area one of Iceland’s best-kept secrets.

Upon arrival at the glacier edge, you’ll begin a short 20-minute hike through the dramatic black desert and on to the glacier. The glacier hike will take along you along a secure path along to the tours main attraction. The reward? Front-row access to the most stunning and remote natural ice cave discovered in Iceland in recent years.

Now comes the extended experience: unlike the standard tour, this 4-hour version gives you an additional hike along the glacier. Your guide will take you on an exploration of the glacier area, as he shares with you information about the glacier and its unique features. As you trek further around the glacier you will seek out hidden glacier canyons and secret waterfalls, offering additional photo opportunities.

When the exploration winds down, you’ll hike back to the Super Jeep and enjoy a relaxing ride back to Vík, filled with unforgettable memories and (likely) hundreds of amazing photos.
