Part 1: Katla Volcano Ice Cave Your day begins by boarding a specially equipped 4x4 Super-Jeep for an off-road journey to the base of the mighty Katla Volcano (located beneath the Mýrdalsjökull glacier). You will ride through the scenic highlands, admiring the landscape of mountains and moss. Your expert guide will lead a short walk to the Katla Ice Cave, a remote and unique feature. Part 2: The LAVA SHOW After the glacier tour, you will have time for lunch before the second activity. The LAVA SHOW offers a singular, globally acclaimed experience by replicating a volcanic eruption. Spectators watch from a safe distance as authentic lava, sourced from the 1918 Katla eruption, is heated to an incredible 1100∘C (2000∘F) and poured into a showroom. You will feel the intense heat and safely perceive the sheer power of molten lava through sight, sound, and sensation. Security goggles are provided for everyone. The show is highly educational, explaining how the lava cools to form volcanic glass and providing factual insights into Iceland's geology.
