Tour Description

Start your day by taking a Super jeep ride to the roots of Katla Volcano, where we will take a short walk to the amazing Katla Volcano Ice Cave. The surroundings are breathtaking, and the Ice Cave is one of a kind. It is quite a large cave and has several beautiful sights and formations to explore. To get there, you'll take a ride into the highlands on our 4x4 Super Jeep as you admire the majestic mountains and fields of moss. You will explore the mighty Dragon Glass caves of ash and ice.

Afterward, you will have time to grab lunch before your next activity - the Lava show!

The Lava Show stands as a remarkable spectacle, offering a singular experience unparalleled anywhere else in the world. It brings to life the awe-inspiring force of a volcanic eruption by heating authentic lava to a staggering 1100°C (2000°F) and pouring it into a showroom bustling with spectators.

At the heart of this extraordinary showcase lies the ambition to faithfully replicate a volcanic outburst. Lava, heated to its molten state, surges into the showroom, instantly enveloping the audience in its intense heat. From the safety of their seats, spectators can vividly perceive, through sight, scent, sound, and sensation, the sheer power emanating from the molten lava.

Sourced from the 1918 Katla eruption, our lava originates from basaltic tephra, commonly known as the black sand that blankets Iceland's South Coast beaches. As the molten lava encounters strategically positioned blocks of ice along its course, it undergoes rapid cooling, resulting in the formation of exquisite volcanic glass with a striking resemblance to obsidian.
