Family River Rafting
Tour Description
Experience the natural beauty of North Iceland on a river rafting adventure down a glacial river. Highlights include navigating through a dramatic river canyon, visiting geothermal hot springs along the riverbanks to warm up, and enjoying hot cocoa prepared by your guide using natural spring water. For those seeking extra activity, the tour offers optional cliff jumping into the mineral-rich glacial waters. High-quality wetsuits are provided to ensure safety and comfort in the cool Icelandic water.
This river rafting tour takes place in the Skagafjörður region of North Iceland, approximately 300 kilometers (a 3.5 to 4-hour drive) from Reykjavík. The trip is designed to be flexible, catering to both those who want a scenic, calm float through the volcanic landscape and those who prefer a more active, splashing experience with their group.
The journey follows a glacial river fed by the melting ice of the Icelandic highlands. As you paddle, you will be surrounded by steep canyons and cascading waterfalls. A key feature of this tour is a stop at a natural geothermal spring located right by the water's edge. Here, guests can relax in the steam and warm their hands and feet. Your guide will also prepare hot chocolate for the group using the heat from the springs, providing a practical way to stay warm in the outdoor environment.
Safety is a primary focus. We provide a large selection of high-quality wetsuits and safety gear. Please note that we do not use dry suits; in glacial river conditions, wetsuits are the safer choice for mobility and buoyancy. Our international guides are professional rafters who provide full safety briefings and instructions on how to paddle as a team before entering the water.
This excursion is a great way for travelers in North Iceland to see the country's unique geology from a different perspective. It combines physical activity with moments of relaxation in a remote wilderness setting.
